From October 11th to 13th, our ASCE OC YMF members visited one of ASCE’s Historic Landmarks, Hoover Dam. We had the opportunity to take two guided tours.
Our first tour took us 500 feet within the Dam to view the turbines and the generator room. The guide explained how the six generators were constructed and mandated and how the generated power is shared between the surrounding states.
We then rode an authentic Mississippi-style paddle-wheeler boat tour on Lake Mead while we enjoyed lunch. Throughout the ride, the captain told us the history of the lake and the water level changes, and we got a close-up look at the back of the Dam.
After a day of taking tours, we had a social with members from Vegas and Seattle YMF at Henderson, CA.
