ASCE OC T&DI invited Justin Fornelli, Chief of Program Delivery for Metrolink, to speak to T&DI regarding current and upcoming Metrolink projects.
Mr. Fornelli discussed current plans to prepare the Metrolink system for the 2028 Olympics and beyond with the SCORE program, a $10 billion capital improvements program. He also discussed efforts by Metrolink to improve ridership and provide better access to its customers throughout the day as it works to serve communities following the disruption to ridership during the Covid pandemic. In addition, he discussed recent work completed with OCTA along the San Clemente Metrolink line, where a hillside failure disrupted Metrolink services. The emergency efforts to stabilize the slope and bring the rail line back into service may apply to another recent landslide in San Clemente.
The presentation was excellent, and many exciting topics (including the car-free goal for the 2028 Olympics) were discussed as part of the question-and-answer session.
This in-person event hosted about 30 people at the beautiful Tustin Ranch Golf Course on May 17, 2023. Participants had the opportunity to network with each other and the guest speaker.
T&DI appreciates Mr. Fornelli’s willingness to present to ASCE and the attendees who supported the event.
