ASCE OC Construction Institute & WiOPS SoCal: Careers in Construction - A Collaborative Conversation

ASCE OC Construction Institute (CI), in collaboration with Women in Construction Operations (WiOPS) So Cal Chapter, hosted Careers in Construction: A Collaborative Conversation on Friday, October 18th at the IRWD Community Meeting Room in Irvine, CA.

We had the honor of having four (4) speakers as part of our industry panel share a wealth of knowledge about their specific construction roles, career advancement, mentorship, and work-life balance. Thank you to Kasie Bowden, General Superintendent at Hensel Phelps; Jack Madrid, Sr. MEP Estimator at McCarthy Building Companies; Aniket Parkhi, Construction Manager at Jacobs; and Allison Mercado, Project Engineer at Snyder Langston. Greg Sebourn, principal and sector leader at Stantec, joined us as our industry panel moderator.

In between the panel session; our panelists took a brief break from the serious, more elaborate panel questions. They answered some easier, fun, rapid-fire questions asked by WiOPS. Questions included "Are you an introvert or an extrovert?" and "Are you a morning person or an evening person?"

This memorable event would not have been possible without the support of our two (2) event sponsors, McCarthy Building Companies and Latitude 33 Planning & Engineering, and the WiOPS So Cal Chapter for accepting to partner with ASCE OC CI on this event. To both WiOPS ladies, Vanessa Tilley and Jacqueline Reed, thank you for your support, enthusiasm, and creativity. Lastly, to the ASCE OC CI Committee for your contributions to making this event successful: Esmeralda Briseno, CI Chair; Jazzy Principe, CI Event Coordinator; Marionne Lapitan, CI Marketing Director; Marisol Olivas, CI Secretary; and our fantastic volunteer Lindsay Critelli, Cost Manager at Jacobs.

We sincerely appreciate everyone's leadership and support. A CE OC Construction Institute looks forward to future partnerships with WiOPS and other organizations.
