On Friday, June 14th, ASCE OC Construction Institute had the pleasure of touring the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Southwest Tower construction site at its main campus in Orange, CA. Prior to beginning the tour, attendees enjoyed lunch (and the most amazing view!) at Biggs Cardosa Associates' office, which is right across the street from the CHOC campus. Special thanks to Jacobs for sponsoring lunch and to Biggs Cardosa for allowing ASCE OC Construction Institute to use their office for lunch and some fun networking!
Following lunch, attendees walked to the CHOC construction site and met with several of the project team members for a project overview and safety moment prior to beginning the tour of the Southwest Tower. The 330,000 sq. ft. nine-story tower, targeted to open in Summer 2025, will provide a variety of pediatric outpatient services, including an imaging center, a dedicated research institute floor, oncology infusion, and numerous specialty clinics.
Our attendees had a wonderful time touring every story of the tower and learning about the construction progress, the design intent, and the challenges the team has had to overcome. Thank you to CHOC Children's Hospital for providing a wonderful learning experience to our student and professional members, and to the CHOC project team, Jacobs and McCarthy Building Companies for hosting and leading such an informative tour of such an essential healthcare project in Orange County.
Additionally, shoutout to the ASCE OC Construction Institute Committee for organizing this event. Esmeralda Aguirre, Construction Institute Chair and Project Engineer at Jacobs, Marisol Olivas, Construction Institute Committee Member and Project Engineer at Jacobs, Jazzy Principe, Construction Institute Committe Member and Project Engineer at Jacobs, and Marionne Lapitan, Construction Institute Member, ASCE OC YMF President-Elect, and Traffic/ITS Engineer at Jacobs. (Jacobs' superstars!!). We appreciate everyone's hard work and support.
