Effective Communication (Mentorship Academy)
The event was part of the ASCE OC University Outreach Committee's Mentorship Academy series. On November 15th, participants attended a presentation focused on effective communication. The session included a brief lecture on key communication strategies, followed by mock situations that allowed students to practice these skills in a supportive environment. This hands-on experience not only enabled students to bond with each other but also emphasized the importance of conveying key messages concisely. A highlight of the event was when Nathan Pelaez participated in a mock situation and provided an extensive answer to a question, demonstrating the principles being taught. Overall, the event successfully equipped students with essential communication skills that benefit their involvement in ASCE.

ASCE OC YMF January General Meeting: Virtual Game Night
On January 22nd, Bryan Cao and fellow student members from ASCE at CSUF, CSULB, and UCI, along with young professionals, engaged in a series of fun activities designed to foster connections among participants. We played word association games and answered pop culture questions, which turned out to be not only enjoyable but also eye-opening. This experience offered me a new perspective on being a civil engineer, highlighting the importance of balancing work with enjoyment and camaraderie.

Alumni and YMF Resume Workshop
On February 6th, Alumni and OC YMF leaders hosted a Resume Workshop at Cal State Fullerton’s campus. The presentation was about understanding what a professional resume looks like, resources available, and how to better improve upon your existing resume. The benefit of this event was that many people got hands-on instructions on what to fix on their resume, which was the whole reason for the presentation. We want to extend a special thank you to our very own alumni and OC YMF University Outreach volunteers: Brisa, Carlos, and Chris! They were able to take time out of their busy schedules to give us this presentation; we truly appreciate it!

New Years, New Mentee Vision Boards (Mentorship Academy)
On January 24th, Mentorship Academy hosted a Vision Board Workshop where mentees and mentors came together to set personal and professional goals for 2025. Attendees were given old newspapers and magazines to create vision boards representing their aspirations. The atmosphere was relaxed and creative, with plenty of conversation and inspiration being shared. This event helped our young ASCE members visualize their futures and provided a space for open discussion about goal-setting and motivation. One of the most memorable moments was seeing the creativity and variety of everyone’s goals on their boards.
