With an almost 3-year-old son and an 8-month-old daughter and two full-time jobs, not much time for hobbies and relaxation...but when we do have time, we enjoy hiking, swimming, futbol, home projects, and traveling.
Geotechnical Instructor - Ali Shafiee, Ph.D, P.E.
Dr. Ali Shafiee is an assistant professor in Civil Engineering Department, California State Polytechnique University, Pomona. He has been heavily involved in work related to geotechnical earthquake engineering and ground motion. He was involved in many significant projects including, but not limited to California high-speed train project, I-15 Express Lanes, San Dieguito Bridge Replacement, and Train Vibration Study of Del Mar Bluffs. He has received his Ph.D. from UCLA and has more than 70 journal and conference papers. He has more than 18 years of industry, teaching, and research experience in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering, and ground motion. He is also board member of ASCE Los Angeles Geo-Institute. He is currently involved in seismic design of several high-rise buildings in downtown San Diego.
Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources & Environmental Instructor - Simeng Li, Ph.D
Simeng Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona where he has been a faculty member since 2019. His research and teaching interests lie in the area of environmental and water resources, ranging from theory to design to implementation.
At Cal Poly Pomona, Simeng is a recipient of the Provost’s Teacher-Scholar Award. He has taught a good variety of courses (especially fluid mechanics and environmental remediation) and mentored dozens of undergraduate and graduate students on funded research projects.
Before becoming a proud and obsessed dad in 2020, Simeng enjoyed road bicycling, hiking, and discovering good food and drinks. Now he usually manages to read one book a month.
Structural Mechanics & Mechanics of Materials Instructor - Jong-Wha Bai, Ph.D, P.E.
Dr. Jong-Wha Bai received his B.S. from Yonsei University (2000), and M.S. and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University (2004, 2011), all in Civil Engineering. He has been a faculty member at California Baptist University (CBU) since 2010. Dr. Bai’s research interests focus on the general topics of resilient infrastructure and sustainable construction materials, including the development of probabilistic models and fragility curves, damage assessment and loss estimation, performance evaluation and retrofit of structures, and structural behavior of high-performance concrete and fiber-reinforced concrete. He currently serves as a department chair of civil engineering and construction management at CBU.
Statics & Dynamics Instructor - Diba Yadegari
Diba Yadegari received his B.S. from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Civil Engineering and M.S. from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in Structural Engineering.
