Economics & Construction Instructor - Jeyoung Woo, Ph.D, P.E., PMP
Jeyoung Woo, Ph.D, PE, PMP is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) and a registered Professional Engineer (Civil - Construction) in Texas. Jeyoung has worked in the industry for nine years as a project manager, a corporate quality manager, and a designer. He earned a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) and a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Hanyang University, ERICA.
He has conducted several research projects about construction labor productivity, construction safety, engineering design quality management, and construction sustainability. He is a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI).
He is ready to share his lessons learned about time management, problem-solving techniques, and other practical tips from his FE/PE Exam prep experience. From his lectures, you will learn from the fundamental concepts of each assigned section to lots of practical problems. Please utilize Jeyoung as one of the primary resources to pass your exam!
Survey Instructor - Jora Amirkhanian, M.S., P.E.
Jora Amirkhanian received his B.S. from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Biology (2006) and received his second B.S. and M.S. from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in Civil Engineering (2009) and Structural Engineering (2012). He is a part-time lecturer at CSUN since 2012. Professor Amirkhanian has taught GPS, Surveying, Construction Site Surveying, and Mechanics Lab at the undergraduate level.
Jora Amirkhanian is an Associate Civil Engineer at Los Angeles County Public Works, Stormwater Engineering Division (Dams Section). His duties include dam safety & monitoring, flood control, water conservation, and project management.
With an almost 3-year-old son and an 8-month-old daughter and two full-time jobs, not much time for hobbies and relaxation...but when we do have time, we enjoy hiking, swimming, futbol, home projects, and traveling.
Geotechnical Instructor - Ali Shafiee, Ph.D, P.E.
Dr. Ali Shafiee is an assistant professor in Civil Engineering Department, California State Polytechnique University, Pomona. He has been heavily involved in work related to geotechnical earthquake engineering and ground motion. He was involved in many significant projects including, but not limited to California high-speed train project, I-15 Express Lanes, San Dieguito Bridge Replacement, and Train Vibration Study of Del Mar Bluffs. He has received his Ph.D. from UCLA and has more than 70 journal and conference papers. He has more than 18 years of industry, teaching, and research experience in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering, and ground motion. He is also board member of ASCE Los Angeles Geo-Institute. He is currently involved in seismic design of several high-rise buildings in downtown San Diego.
Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources & Environmental, and Mathematics & Statistics Instructor - Helen Jung, Ph.D, P.E.
Helen Jung is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Construction Management at Gordon and Jill Bourn College of Engineering and California Baptist University. She obtained her B.S. for Civil Engineering - Structural, and her M.S. and Ph.D. for Civil Engineering - Hydrology and Water Resources at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has taught a variety of courses and her scholarly interests are catchment response to land-cover change (including wildfire) GIS analysis, watershed modeling, operational flood forecasting, and parameter estimation for hydrologic models. Dr. Jung has been married to Calvin since 2005. They have a son, Jaiden, and a daughter, Sia. Her hobbies include Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Cycling and Swimming.
Structural Mechanics & Mechanics of Materials Instructor - Jong-Wha Bai, Ph.D, P.E.
Dr. Jong-Wha Bai received his B.S. from Yonsei University (2000), and M.S. and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University (2004, 2011), all in Civil Engineering. He has been a faculty member at California Baptist University (CBU) since 2010. Dr. Bai’s research interests focus on the general topics of resilient infrastructure and sustainable construction materials, including the development of probabilistic models and fragility curves, damage assessment and loss estimation, performance evaluation and retrofit of structures, and structural behavior of high-performance concrete and fiber-reinforced concrete. He currently serves as a department chair of civil engineering and construction management at CBU.
Statics & Dynamics Instructor - Pratanu Ghosh, Ph.D
Dr. Pratanu Ghosh is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at California State University, Fullerton. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of Utah, USA in 2011 and MS degree from University of Windsor in 2007. His research expertise primarily focuses on sustainability and durability investigation of high-performance concrete materials, service life modeling using reliability assessment, health monitoring and quality control/quality assurance of bridge deck design and construction using emerging experimental and numerical technologies. Recently, he has established research collaboration with faculties in Europe for development of a robust service life modeling software. In addition, he has developed significant connection with several companies in California and around the nation for donation of materials and equipment for his future research. He is actively involved in professional societies and committees including the Transportation Research Board and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He has been recognized for exceptional teaching, research, and service from Faculty Development Center at CSUF. Additionally, he has been awarded Outstanding Faculty Advisor award from ASCE Orange County Chapter in 2014 and Outstanding Young Engineer Award from Orange County Engineering Council (OCEC) in 2021.
Transportation - Wen Cheng, Ph.D, P.E., PTOE, T.E.
Dr. Cheng received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University. His research focuses on big data, highway safety, statistical modeling, machine learning, autonomous vehicles, traffic operation, public health, and gas emission. He won the nationally recognized “2008 Young Researcher Award” presented by TRB Committee on Safety Data, Analysis, and Evaluation due to his research related to safety performance ranking. He also received the 2013 National James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award from the Civil Engineering honor society, and the 2015 Outstanding Research Award, and the 2018 Outstanding Teaching Award from Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering. Recently, he received the 2020 Provost’s Excellence in Teaching Award from Cal Poly Pomona and the 2021 Outstanding Teaching Award from ASEE PSW (American Society for Engineering Education, Pacific SouthWest Section).
Materials- Dragos Andrei, Ph.D, P.E.
Dr. Andrei is a Professor of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where he has been a faculty member since 2007. He is the Director of the Pavement Recycling and Reclaiming Center, a university center dedicated to the advancement of sustainable pavement materials and practices through research, training, and technology transfer. Dragos completed his Ph.D. at Arizona State University, his M.S. at the University of Maryland, and his undergraduate studies at the Technical University of Iasi, Romania. Before joining the faculty at Cal Poly Pomona, Dragos held positions with Fugro Consultants in Austin, Texas, and MACTEC Engineering and Consulting (now Wood PLC) in Los Angeles. Dragos is a registered civil engineer in California and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering. His favorite quote is: “there is an even cleaner form of energy than the sun, more renewable than the wind: it’s the energy we don’t consume” (Arthur H. Rosenfeld)
Ethics & Professional Practice - Jeremy Redman, Ph.D
