Welcome to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Orange County Younger Member Forum (OC YMF)! For those who are new to our organization, OC YMF aims to help Younger Members grow professionally and serve the public and communities!
I am blessed and honored to be serving as President for the 2021-2022 fiscal year and contribute to the amazing legacy of OC YMF. A little about me: I work at Parsons as a Road & Highway Engineer and I am so grateful for the support, technical and soft skills I have learned through YMF to enhance my career! I have been in Orange County for 5 years now and love the community of family, friends, and colleagues that has grown over the years and enjoy all the fun things that the OC has to offer!
About Our ASCE OC YMF Leaders & Events
Everything that we do would not be possible if it wasn’t for our amazing team of 40 board members! I am joined on the Executive Board by Past-President Melissa Hilsabeck of Port of Long Beach, President-Elect Gaby Gonzalez of the City of Anaheim, Treasurer Jess Gascon of WSP, and Secretary Gerardo Padilla of Mark Thomas. In the “About” tab, you can find more information on who we are under Board, what we do, our member spotlights, and additional information and resources.
Throughout the pandemic, our YMF has been planning and hosting events that were redefined with virtual platforms & other safety measures as we navigated in-person events. We have 20+ committees such as website committee, marketing committee/chair, programs committee, and our 6 technical institute liaisons committees that could use assistance and we have plenty of room for you all to join in on the fun! I invite you to explore the opportunities under the Committees & Programs tabs at the top of this page to learn more about ways to pursue a committee you are passionate about and upcoming events. We would love for you to join us on the Third Wednesday of every month on Zoom for our Board Meetings (Open to All) to meet everyone and get a monthly update on OC YMF! Sign up for the email distribution list below.
Our Goals for Fiscal Year 2021-2022
OC YMF aims to learn and improve our events each year to ensure our communities' needs are being considered and satisfied in the best way we can. That said, there are two goals that are worth mentioning:
First, we have been looking into avenues to resume in-person events, ONLY when it makes sense, where safety protocols can be implemented, always within the framework of Federal, State, and local requirements. In our implementation plan, one ongoing effort includes hybrid events that would allow remote attendees to tune into our events. We will continue to host some events virtually as it has benefited and provided more flexibility for our members that commute and want to be involved!
Second, we would like to focus on revamping our events in a manner that is safe, engages a diverse audience and brings essential values that will help future leaders. As we are navigating through our year, we hope to recruit, retain and reclaim younger members so that we can provide quality events to all that promote growth, a healthy life balance, teamwork and more!
Thank you for your time and for visiting our website! If you would like to get involved or have any suggestions regarding our organization, please reach out to me or another one of our leaders. I look forward to pursuing the mission of YMF with you!
