President’s Message

        ASCE Orange County YMF

Welcome to the American Society of Civil Engineers, Orange County, Young Member Forum (ASCE OC YMF). I am proud and honored to serve as your President for the 2017-2018 year. Thank you for visiting our website and looking at our events, activities and resources we have to offer.

My main goal this year is to bridge the gap between students and young professionals, capture the enthusiasm we all have for professional-personal growth and apply it in building a coalition of successful young engineers. We provide a variety of opportunities to network, grow professionally, and give back to the community. Throughout the year, we host many K-12 Outreach events, professional development workshops, speaker series events, a Mentorship Program, and PE Review courses. We also have a lot of fun getting to know each other through events like our monthly Happy Hours, outdoor socials, community service opportunities, our annual wine trip, national conferences, and networking events with other YMFs and our own Orange County Branch.

Throughout the years of my involvement, one of my most memorable times was when I helped plan and execute the Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition for k-12 students. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing, you shaped a young mind to pursue a journey in STEM, something that we want more students to entertain as they choose their path out of high school. Events like this, helping the community, is what fuels my passion to do what I do in ASCE.

This year I am fortunate to be part of a diverse board who is passionate in the effort strive improvement among themselves and better the OC YMF Community. Together we plan to promote and enrich the civil engineering profession by providing young members and students with the resources and opportunities for professional development, leadership skills, networking and community service in a social environment.

I encourage you to communicate with the current OC YMF Board to share a new idea or learn how you can find value in your ASCE membership. Help our group thrive by volunteering at our events and/or joining a committee. Together we can build a better, stronger, and more connected civil engineering community in Orange County.
